I want to briefly touch upon a subject that was received lots of attention in various cities across the country. That is the proposed ultra-high-speed-network that Google has recently requested proposals for. If you have been following these stories, you have seen several communities that pulled wild stunts in order to get the attention of Google. Why are cities going to such great lengths in order to woo Google?
Well, there are numerous advantages to having high speed network in place. As we start too learn more about Googles plan to provide these networks, we will be better able to determine what impact this will have on some very important issues. Some issues that I think are worth mentioning and worth a closer look are electronic medical records, small, high-tech business attraction, increasing digital literacy in the inner city, and providing the broader infrastructure to dramatically increase the the effectiveness of the public education systems.
